Are you ready? For summer, that is. I know it doesn’t officially start until June 21, but it never hurts to plan ahead.
Last year I offered a few blog posts and tips for those of us who planned to stay near home for our summer vacations or Stay-Cations or Staycations (the spelling of this made-up word has evolved). These posts were intended especially for parents on a budget. However, anyone could use them, even those with unlimited budgets (although, I’d be amazed if anyone like that actually reads this blog).
To jumpstart your creative thinking, I have a question for you.
What do kids most want from adults?
Well, many things actually, but for the purposes of this blog post I’m referring to how younger children love it when their parents are spontaneous.
Ever notice how joyful your children become when you suddenly bless them with an unexpected outing or surprise? Or those times when they ask, Could we please . . .?
If you have a well-planned summer car kit, you just might be free to say, Why certainly! (cue your best Three Stooges voice).
Summer Car Kit Supplies:
• Box with a lid
• Bug repellant spray
• Sunscreen
• Suntan Lotion
• Aloe
• Basic 1st Aid Kit
• Wipes
• Paper Towels &/or Hand Towels
• Water Bottles
• Snacks
• Extra Plastic Grocery Bags
(To clean up those extra messes)
• Activity books
• Erasable Markers or Pencils
• Notebook & Pens
• Large Picnic Blanket and/or . . .

(These fit most park picnic tables)
With a well-stocked car kit you can be that spontaneous well-prepared adult. Yes, I know. Planned spontaneity seems like an oxy-moron. That’s because it is.
What other items would you add to the car kit? Tell me in the comments below.
Until next time . . . Travel Light,

Love the idea of the fitted twin bed sheet ! If you take your dog with you to the picnic, you’ll want to add a water bowl for him.
Definitely a good tip. We always have a covered water bowl and a few treats for our dog in the car.
I like your tip about the fitted bed sheet! I need to remember to travel with one, so rest stop tables won’t be so daunting.
Yes. It does help when those tables aren’t exactly clean. Plus, it just seems more festive instantly.
