Time of Singing

Have you noticed?

Spring came.

Nothing could stop it. Not even the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. Song of Solomon 2:12 (NKJV)

You can hear the birds and people singing even if you’re stuck inside. The words to the song: How Can I Keep From Singing, encapsulate my thoughts. I’ve added links below for your enjoyment.

How Can I Keep From Singing
(My Life Flows On in Endless Song by American Baptist minister,
Robert Wadsworth Lowry, 1869, Public Domain)

My life flows on in endless song;
Above earth’s lamentation,
I hear the sweet, tho’ far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.

Thru all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul—
How can I keep from singing?

What tho’ my joys and comforts die?
The Lord my Savior liveth;
What tho’ the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth.

No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that rock I’m clinging;
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?

I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smooths,
Since first I learned to love it.

The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am his—
How can I keep from singing?

The A Cappella Academy Choir version in honor of all those students and their choir directors (thinking of you, Kim) who didn’t get a chance to sing their spring concerts. Notice their energy. Wow!

To be fair, I think the Dove hums rather than sings. Maybe that’s why scripture says, his voice is heard instead of his song is heard.

COVID-19 couldn’t stop spring’s arrival. The birds can’t stop singing.

Why should we?

Until next time . . . Enjoy the music, Sing!
