Have you read the picture book, The Pout-Pout Fish by Debra Diesen?

Our friends visited the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, in Japan with their grandchildren. They all decided the fish in the featured photo above could easily have posed for the book.This book is an excellent read-aloud for your little ones, especially when they are pouting. It might be good for an adult with the grumps, too.

Recently, I read the book to my grands. They giggled to the rhythm and rhyme. But they especially enjoyed reciting the repetitive lines with me. At the end, I asked them if they ever pouted.

They all shook their heads.

All except my matter-of-face grandson, that is. He sat stoically beside me.

“Your mouth looks kind of like the fish,” I said. “Are you pouting?”

He replied, “My face is what it is.”

Hmm. Future engineer in training.

How’s your face?
