Much of the northern hemisphere is experiencing cold winter weather now. It’s always so sad when the Christmas lights are long gone.
About this time of year many people are tired of the drab winter scenery. Why not add some beauty to your surroundings?
Visit Your Flower, Lawn, and Garden Store.
One way to refresh our outlook is a trip to the local flower, lawn, and garden store. The Christmas cactus and poinsettias may all be gone now. But there are other colors to enjoy.
Perhaps you would enjoy the greenery in the hothouse area. For me, it’s the bright spots of color in the remaining cyclamen flowers.
Take a Virtual Trip to Another Part of the World.
When we visited Israel, they had cyclamen plants all around the Garden Tomb site. Check out my previous blog post about Israel’s Garden Tomb: https://suzanklassen.com/2017/05/08/the-garden-tomb/
One of the many things I enjoy during travel is learning the different names for common items in other parts of the world. For instance, what we call greenhouses here in the U.S., in the British isles, they call polytunnels.
Add Beauty to Your Rooms.
I was able to keep my cyclamen plants blooming in a southeast window. Remember to let their soil go dry. Cyclamen do not like wet feet.
One of my friends keeps twinkle lights on a bookshelf and above her mantle all winter.
Daydream of Spring to Come.
You can order a spring catalog from many different companies. My personal favorite was always the Stark Brothers catalog. We chose them because we like to grow fruit trees and berry bushes when we have the time and space. But there are many other companies with catalogs dedicated specifically to flowers.
Unfortunately, many of these companies no longer send out catalogs because they are cost prohibitive for them. However, there are still some companies that offer them. You may have to search online to find some colorful beauty. But honestly, would that be so terrible? Try: flower catalogs 2022 in your search browser. I found several that way, both printed and digital.
If you need a little beauty in your gray, brown, and beige world try:
- A trip to the flower, lawn, and garden store.
- A trip through the internet looking for flowers in other parts of the world.
- Beauty on your windowsill, bookshelf, mantle, or table.
- Order a spring catalog and dream of spring to come.
- A visit to previous blog posts here on my website.
Spring will be here before you know it.
I love colorful flowers. How about you? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
Until next time . . . Travel Light,

Great post to bring spring inside. I like to look through Renee’s Garden online. https://www.reneesgarden.com/
Oh, good. Thank you for the tip! I hope others read your comment.
Yes, I visit the garden centers often!
I end up buying plants – too many plants… HAHA!
Are you preparing for more blog posts about succulents?
Or just creating a new legacy (in addition to your fabric legacy) for your children and grands?
