“How do you deal with it? You always have a smile on your face,” my friend said.
Those of you who regularly read my blog know that I have cancer in my bones. Our bones do not like cancer. Pain is how they complain.
Several years ago we knew a man who suffered through chronic back pain. Yet he managed to keep a soft smile on his face. How did he do that?
Even after several surgeries did not alleviate his pain, that soft smile lingered. Again, how did he do that?
Two ways.
1. Most importantly, he had a steady relationship with Jesus Christ. Did that mean he did not have bad days? Of course not. But it did mean he had someone to turn to.
To cry out to God on those darkest days when exhausted by pain. The very act of praying, crying and even railing about the excruciating discomfort allows some relief. I have found it to be true for myself as well.
I am not saying it alleviates the physical pain, although it certainly may. I am saying it alleviates the emotional and spiritual pain.
2. Back to my friend with the chronic back pain. His shelves held numerous comedy videos. Sometimes when we visited him after his surgeries, we found him watching one of those videos. Laughter gave him some relief.
Laughter releases endorphins, which act as a mild pain reliever. So that old saying has some truth:
Laughter is the best medicine.
While recovering from my recent surgery, I searched for comedy, too. One of the best sources I found was: DryBarComedy.com
You do not have to be in pain to enjoy comedy. Below is a link to one of my favorites. You may need to refresh your memory on the tale of The Three Little Pigs before you watch it. The comedian is John Branyan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwZWaw2NCrM
By the way, if one of my links fails, copy and paste the link into your browser. It usually works.
How do you deal with your chronic pain? Tell me about it in the comments below. Or tell me how someone you know has dealt with it.
Until next time . . . Travel Light,

Such an important post for those who deal with chronic pain. Thank you for sharing. I recommend YouTube videos about fainting goats.
Fainting goats, eh? I will definitely have to check into those. I’ve seen screaming goats, but never fainting.
