Do You Like Change?

Many people struggle with some form of change.

From my office window I look out on a landscape of trees with rolling hills and a pond beyond. It gives me a fine vantage point to watch the seasons change. Or not.

This spring, winter has not willingly released its grip. One day dawns with blue skies. A breeze chases puffy clouds.

The next day, storm clouds rush in carrying snow. It piles up. The birds rush back to our bird feeders, followed by squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, possums, and hawks.

Winter—spring—winter—spring. The seasons go back and forth almost like a game of tug-a-war. Which will it be today?

Did you ever think that even the seasons struggle with change?

It made me smile to realize that.

As I watch the destruction cancer wreaks on my body, I struggle with the changes. I also struggle with the changes caused by the side effects of treatment.

A fierce game of tug-a-war goes on within my body. Who or what will win?

When I feel miserable, I resent all the changes.

Perhaps you are in a season of change. Perhaps it is a struggle for you, too.

Did you know how your face looks could affect your outlook?

Smile facts from the SCL Health website:
“When you smile, your brain releases tiny molecules called neuropeptides to help fight off stress. Then other neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins come into play, too. The endorphins act as a mild pain reliever, whereas the serotonin is an antidepressant. One study even suggests that smiling can help us recover faster from stress and reduce our heart rate. In fact, it might even be worth your while to fake a smile and see where it gets you. There’s been some evidence that forcing a smile can still bring you a boost in your mood and happiness level.”
